Last week, we introduced our partnership with Meublimo. We discussed how the company can help you furnish a vacation rental property. You can see one of their projects currently available for rent on the Welkeys Club.
This week, we’re catching up with Jordan Herisse to cover two additional points. First, he will share his advice on equipping a short-term rental. Second, he will talk about the sustainable side of Meublimo’s business, an aspect that Welkeys is keen to highlight.
What are the must-have amenities you recommend for all property owners?
The level of equipment required for a short-term rental is inevitably higher than for a long-term rental. Travelers need to feel at home, even if it’s only for a few nights.
Must-have amenities should be chosen based on your target audience and the apartment's location. If you are in the mountains, for example, consider providing a raclette or fondue set. It’s a small detail, but it’s a great way to create moments of conviviality for a group of travelers. Creating such memories helps build loyalty. If your apartment is located in a business district, consider including a workspace.
Beyond location and target audience, we recommend that owners provide their guests with all the essential small appliances for daily use. For example: a coffee maker, a kettle, a toaster, an iron, or a hair dryer. Guests staying for a few nights always appreciate these little touches.
These additional amenities will make your property more attractive. They will set it apart from others currently on the market. These small touches also help communicate the quality of the property, attract and retain guests, and ultimately avoid rental vacancies.
To what extent is your business sustainable?
Sustainable interior design is a response to a real awareness of environmental and CSR issues. Investors and landlords are increasingly attentive to this dimension. To meet these new demands, we are working to integrate these issues into our processes and furnishing choices. Here are the areas we are working on:
- Integrating eco-designed and certified furnishing products
When furnishing and decorating our clients' properties, we place special importance on the choice of materials. We systematically favor recycled and responsible materials by choosing, for example, cotton cushions instead of synthetic ones.
Whenever possible, we select products that carry an environmental label. I am thinking, for example, of the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) label, or the PEF (Product Environmental Footprint) designation, which reduces the environmental footprint of products.
We also make sure to choose products with an "eco-designed" label. By using fewer materials, these products are designed to limit their environmental impact at every stage of their life cycle.
- Choosing natural and unprocessed products
Plastic is gradually disappearing from our designs, giving way to natural and unprocessed materials like rattan and wicker, for example. We also make sure to offer our clients solid wood furniture (oak, for example) and we steer clear of furniture made from particle board.
- Choosing our partners and supplier brands
The sustainability dimension also involves the choice of our suppliers. We make it a point to work with French companies that have their manufacturing lines in France and create jobs locally. This is the case with the French brand Alinéa, which designs, sketches, and manufactures part of its products in France.
- Recycling our waste.
Although we are mindful of our environmental footprint, almost all of our furniture is still delivered today packaged in cardboard and polystyrene. This packaging ensures transport in the best possible conditions. At the end of the installation, we take care of waste removal. Every piece of packaging is sorted and taken to a recycling center.
We are currently working on developing a green charter, which should be launched by March 2021.
