Discover the Arcachon Bay in a new light
Head toward the sea
During your stay around the Arcachon Bay, take advantage of high tide to board a pinasse or a galupe—traditional local boats—and set a course for the tchanquées cabins, which stand on stilts near the Île aux Oiseaux.
For the more athletic, a kayak trip is a great way to circle the cabins or reach ocean beaches like La Lagune or Le Truc Vert for a surfing session. The setting offers dream conditions for enjoying water sports, whether you are a beginner or an enthusiast.
Next, sail toward the Banc d’Arguin National Nature Reserve, a sandbank with a landscape constantly reshaped by the wind and tides, where birds like the Sandwich tern and the oystercatcher nest. Observe them from a distance or explore the reserve on foot, making sure to stick to the marked paths.
Back on dry land, take the time to wander through one of the oyster ports and villages: there are no fewer than 90 traditional cabins welcoming you all around the bay. Don't miss the ones in L'Herbe or Le Mimbeau, and treat yourself to an oyster tasting straight from the producer.
Explore the Bay and its surroundings
The Arcachon Bay is about more than just nautical and maritime activities: have you heard of Arcachon's "Ville d'Hiver" (Winter Town)? It is a collection of no fewer than 300 Belle Époque villas built in the 19th century, such as Villa Toledo or Villa Teresa. They can be admired during a tour, either on your own or with a guide.
Set aside a morning to stroll through one of the local markets, such as the one in Cap Ferret. The stalls offer not only seafood but also specialties sourced directly from the Landes and Basque Country.
Nature lovers should head to the Domaine de Certe, the Près-Salés d’Arès-Lège, or the Teich Bird Reserve. These reserves are suitable for birdwatchers of all ages, with observation trails to discover numerous species of birds and lizards, as well as the European pond turtle.
To continue your exploration, head up the Eyre River to reach the picturesque ports of Biganos and Les Tuiles before continuing your getaway toward Bordeaux. Its historic center is sure to charm you and undoubtedly holds the perfect spot for your lunch.
Take in the view from above
Our rentals in Arcachon are located in the heart of the bay, near the region's must-see landmark and pride of the Aquitaine region: the Dune of Pilat. Lace up your sneakers and set off to climb the largest sand dune in Europe for a panoramic walk along its ridge. Accessible year-round, it allows you to appreciate the surrounding landscapes through the changing seasons. The more adventurous can try paragliding for an even higher perspective—a perfect opportunity for a first flight or a solo trip.
For a different angle, we invite you to climb the 258 steps of the Cap Ferret lighthouse: at the top, a 360° view of the Arcachon Bay and the Atlantic Ocean awaits you.
If you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, the piers offer a prime vantage point over the water. Head to Andernos, where you can settle in on the longest pier in France at the end of the day—the perfect opportunity to enjoy an unforgettable sunset over the lagoon.
