When renting out your property on Airbnb for the first time, you naturally have questions about protection. It’s not always easy to trust strangers with your home, no matter how friendly they seem! That’s why your short-term rental agency is here to explain everything you need to know about Host Damage Protection!
What is the difference between a security deposit and Host Damage Protection?
One of the unique features of the Airbnb platform is an optional security deposit, which requires guests to pay a certain amount if they damage your property. This deposit is not automatic; you must submit a request through the Resolution Center . Note that the deposit can range from €100 up to a maximum of €5,000. Host Damage Protection is a much broader form of coverage that all hosts receive for free. It provides up to $1 million in coverage, and Airbnb commits to compensating you for any damage (or theft) to your property. Host Damage Protection kicks in if the cost of damages exceeds the security deposit or if no security deposit was applied to the stay.
In what specific cases does Host Damage Protection apply?
This protection applies in cases of theft or specific types of damage. Be sure to take photos and keep receipts for any repairs, as you will need them to support your claim with the Resolution Center. We encourage you to carefully read all the terms and conditions under which the protection applies. Note, for example, that costs for routine or functional cleaning are not covered.
