After establishing ourselves in the ski resorts of the French Alps, your Welkeys concierge service is now arriving in the Pyrenees. Building on our experience in resorts such as La Clusaz, Megève, and Alpe d’Huez, we are heading to the other side of France. Welcome to La Mongie!

‍

La Mongie, the largest ski resort in the French Pyrenees

Located in the Pyrenees National Park and near the Pic du Midi, La Mongie is part of the Grand Tourmalet ski area. With 62 miles of slopes, it is the largest ski area in the French Pyrenees.

‍

All skiers are welcome, from beginners to experts. The resort offers passes suited to everyone. Younger visitors and families can take advantage of special rates and facilities.

‍

Experienced freeriders will also find their paradise in the Aygues Cluses valley, which offers a breathtaking view of the Néouvielle massif. You will also have access to the Pic du Midi freeride area.

‍

For those who don't ski, the resort offers all kinds of activities, like the ones we featured last week. For example, a dog sledding adventure or a snowshoe hike under the stars.

‍

La Mongie, beyond skiing

‍

La Mongie is much more than just a ski resort. It is part of the same area as the town of Barèges, which is accessible by shuttle. You can take the time to discover this traditional village with its stone houses and slate roofs.

‍

The region also promises some wonderful discoveries for your taste buds. The local gastronomy consists of simple, delicious products. For meat, you can try grilled Pyrenees lamb or Black Bigorre pork. If you have a sweet tooth, we recommend the spit cake or the local pound cake. In any case, artisans and restaurateurs who highlight local products and expertise are identified by the “HaPy Saveur” label.

‍

Starting in late spring, you can admire the animals in the pastures and discover the tradition of pastoralism. Whether by hiking, visiting a farm, or sleeping in a mountain hut under the stars, there are many ways to experience it. Several pastoral festivals are also organized at the beginning and end of the season.

‍

Finally, in Bagnères-de-Bigorre, relax with the local thermal waters. Drawn at a temperature of 122°F, they have carved their way through limestone rocks. Rich in trace elements and minerals, they have numerous therapeutic benefits. They are recommended for rheumatology as well as psychosomatic conditions and respiratory or ENT ailments.
