The news has been making a lot of noise lately and has raised many questions. Biarritz will host the G7 at the end of the month. Welkeys summarizes the essential points for its travelers.
What is the G7?
The G7 is an international event bringing together the 7 largest world powers for a summit. Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom will meet to discuss the economy and global issues. Created in 1976, the G7 will take place this year in the city of Biarritz from August 24 to 26, 2019. The stakes are high, and security must be impeccable. To this end, the city of Biarritz has set up several zones to control the flow of pedestrians and maximize the safety of politicians, journalists, and residents. Access to Biarritz and its city center will therefore be extremely monitored.
How do the zones work?
For the occasion, Biarritz has been divided into 2 zones: Zone 1 (red) "enhanced protection" and Zone 2 (blue) "protection." People wishing to enter either of the two zones must have the badge corresponding to the zone in question. Below are the specifics for each zone:

Zone 1:
- Eligible for the badge: residents, employees, healthcare professionals, etc., of the zone. Pedestrian traffic is permitted with a Zone 1 badge and an ID card. Motor vehicle traffic is prohibited. Parking is prohibited.
Zone 2:
- Eligible for the badge: residents, employees, healthcare professionals, etc., of the zone. Pedestrian traffic is possible with a Zone 2 badge and an ID card. Motor vehicle traffic is authorized with a sticker. Parking is possible with the sticker.
All these security measures will be implemented from August 23 to 26 only. Outside of these dates, you will be able to access and move around Biarritz as usual.
