For your vacation rental in Guadeloupe, discover your Welkeys concierge service! Last week, we announced our arrival in the Caribbean archipelago. Today, meet Marjory, our local City Manager.
She explains why she loves Guadeloupe so much and why she chose to work with Welkeys. Check out all her recommendations to make the most of your stay!
What is your connection to Guadeloupe?
As a lover of island life, I moved to Guadeloupe two years ago. I grew up in Polynesia, and in Guadeloupe, I’ve found that same gentle pace of life under the coconut trees that I love so much.
Guadeloupe is fascinating, and every weekend, my friends and I set out to discover new places. With its turquoise lagoons, beaches, hikes through the heart of the tropical forest, waterfalls, rivers, and hot springs… it’s impossible not to fall in love with Guadeloupe and its local culture.
Why did you choose the role of City Manager at Welkeys?
After working for several years in various hospitality roles, I was looking for a new professional challenge. While specializing in private concierge services, I discovered Welkeys. What I particularly enjoy about the City Manager role is maintaining that personal connection with travelers while taking on the challenge of growing my portfolio of properties and building trusting relationships with homeowners.
I was convinced by the services Welkeys offers, the company's reputation, its expertise, and its potential for growth. This project to develop the brand in Guadeloupe is a fantastic opportunity for me.
Which towns or areas of the island are you prioritizing for your work?
Initially, I want to develop our operations in the towns of Bas-du-Fort, Le Gosier, and Sainte-Anne. These towns are ideally located and have a high concentration of properties dedicated to vacation rentals. They allow you to enjoy the tourist attractions of Grande-Terre while remaining accessible to Basse-Terre. Of course, I am ready to operate in other towns as well. When the time is right, we can evaluate the feasibility of the project with the owner, depending on the exact location of their property.
In the second phase, I plan to expand to the towns of Saint-François on Grande-Terre and Bouillante on Basse-Terre. Since these also have must-see tourist attractions, it is important to have a varied range of accommodations to appeal to all types of travelers.
Do you have any recommendations for us?
There are so many places I love on the islands of Guadeloupe, I could talk about them for hours.
To admire the landscapes of Guadeloupe
Sunrise at La Pointe des Châteaux in Saint-François. You have to have the courage to get up very early, but the spectacle is simply magical!
For beautiful beaches, I recommend those at La Caravelle, Port-Louis, and Grande Anse.
For an immersion in the tropical jungle, I recommend the hikes leading to the magnificent Chutes du Carbet or the charming Bassin Paradis.
My favorite excursions are those to the Petite-Terre nature reserve, a true little paradise both underwater and on the islet;
and Les Saintes; just a 10-minute boat ride from Trois-Rivières, this Caribbean gem is an absolute must-include during your stay in Guadeloupe.
To taste the local flavors
The restaurant at the Le Rayon Vert hotel in Deshaies for a refined lunch featuring local flavors and a magnificent view between the sea and the mountains.
The restaurant Le Rocher de Malendure overlooks Malendure Bay and has a fantastic fish menu.
Over in Grande-Terre, I recommend the restaurant Chez Margaux, in Le Gosier. It’s more traditional, the welcome is incredibly warm, and the chef, Jean-François, is truly passionate—he’ll wake up your taste buds with his Creole-inspired dishes. A real hidden gem!
Otherwise, for a budget-friendly meal, there’s the BOKIT, the quintessential Guadeloupean sandwich. Don’t miss out on the must-try coconut sorbet for an afternoon snack!
For a perfect sunset, I’d recommend either the delicious cocktails at the bar of the La Toubana hotel in Sainte-Anne—the view from the pool is breathtaking—or enjoying the spectacle in its natural setting from the beach at Malendure or Grande Anse, with a Lékouz craft beer and some cod fritters. The sun sets right in front of you over the ocean; it’s a must!
As you can see, there is so much to discover in Guadeloupe! Join us soon; I’m looking forward to sharing all my tips with you, tailored to your interests.
