The seaside resort of Pornichet is part of the côte d’Amour as well as La Baule-Escoublac and Saint-Nazaire, on the Atlantic coast of France.
The city started developing during the 19th century when the railroad was built. What was beforehand a village with fishermen and salt marshes became a seaside resort famous during the area of sea bathing.
Pornichet has 3 main beaches. The largest and most central is Plage des Librairies. Its name comes from the editors, booksellers and writers who built the first villas. For shore fishing, we recommend Plage de la Bonne Source. If you want an enjoyable family outing, lookout for Plage Sainte-Marguerite.
The 19th-century atmosphere is still reigning in the neighborhood of Pointe du Bé with the villas, the marina and the pedestrian spaces. There, you can admire the Château des Tourelles which has been turned into a hotel and spa.
Pornichet is also well-known for the racetrack, where horse races have been taking place since 1907, and the convention center which holds various events throughout the year. The casino is also noteworthy with its restaurant overlooking the bay. You can sit down at a table in one of the many bars and restaurants in town but a visit at Le Bidule is a must.
Those with an interest in sports can give a try to paddling, surfing or jet-skiing. The most curious will enjoy the sand yacht activity available on the beach. Companies offer cruises to various destinations such as Île d’Yeux.
If you would rather walk, you have multiple options too. Follow the coastal path which will lead you to Saint-Nazaire. While walking, enjoy the panorama on the île des Evens. Around Pornichet, you can find many trails in the countryside, whether you wish to walk or bike for a few hours.
Finally, the city is the perfect starting point to explore the region. The program includes salt marshes, the Parc Naturel Régional de Brière and the Côte Sauvage.
Pornichet has more than 490 active rentals which are mainly whole accommodations dedicated to welcoming tourists.
They usually consist of one or two-bedroom accommodations but you can find four-bedrooms and studios. According to the neighborhood, they are houses or apartments. The vast majority is located closer to the seafront.
Most guests will stay for two nights but others will book longer stays, from 3 to more than 7 nights.
