The city of Le Croisic is located close to La Baule-Escoublac and Pornichet. It is situated at the end of the Guérande peninsula. It is considered at the last stop on the way to Brittany and its port is very active.
As a consequence, the port’s activity has evolved over the centuries and is still very much alive. Pleasure-boating and fishing activities coexist nowadays. The city is still well-known for its emblematic catch : prawns.
The commercial past of the city is still visible today: artificial small hills have been created with rocks that were used to ballast boats when they were sailing back from the Americas. The city started developing a touristic activity in 1879 with the construction of the railroad. There are former military constructions such as la Vigie de la Romaine and Fort de l’Océan. The manoir Kervaudu and hôtel de l’Aiguillon are the most noteworthy among private houses.
The city also has multiple parks and gardens. For example, garden Chapleau is a reproduction of ancient orchards. You can also enjoy a stroll through garden Stéphane Jan and park Penn Avel. If you prefer the ocean to trees, try kayaking, surfing, paddling or diving!
For an uncommon activity, make sure to visit the sea farm of Le Croisic. The owners produce seaweeds in a sustainable approach. They offer different workshops such as harvesting or cooking. Do not forget to stop by their shop to bring home seaweed caviar or dried algae.
